Your application for the Master’s program in Bioeconomy

To apply for the Master’s program in Bioeconomy, simply check the admission requirements and then upload your documents online through the HohCampus application portal by the application deadline. The application portal opens in mid-April for applications for the winter semester and in mid-December for the summer semester.

Application deadlines

To the 1st subject-related semester

  • Winter semester: 15 June
  • Summer semester: not possible

For a higher subject-related semester

  • Winter semester: 15 June
  • Summer semester: 15 January

How to apply

Apply online via the HohCampus application portal for the Master’s degree program in Bioeconomy and upload the application documents in the application portal. There you can also check the status of your application at any time.

Admission requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a German or foreign university with at least 180 ECTS or at least a 3-year standard period of study and an average grade of at least 3.0 on the German grading scale

Bachelor's programs can be recognized if they have a agricultural, horticultural, or forestry profile such as:

  • Agricultural Biology
  • Agricultural Sciences
  • Agricultural Economics
  • Forest Sciences
  • Horticulture
  • Land Use
  • Biobased Products and Bioenergy
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Viticulture
  • Other three-year Bachelor’s programs can be recognized as equivalent if at least 50 percent of the content was in agricultural sciences.

Bachelor’s programs can be recognized if they have a natural science and engineering profile such as:

  • Agricultural Biology
  • Biology
  • Biochemistry
  • Biotechnology
  • Bioengineering
  • Chemistry
  • Nutritional Science
  • Food Technology
  • Food Chemistry
  • Process Engineering

Bachelor’s programs can be recognized if they have a business, economics, and social science profile such as:

  • Business Administration
  • Business Administration and Economics
  • Economics
  • Sustainability and Change
  • Other three-year Bachelor’s programs can be recognized as equivalent if at least 50 percent of the content was in business and economic sciences.

The admission office may extend the lists of the degree programs.

  • Sufficient English proficiency, proven with an official test with at least 180 ECTS or e.g. TOEFL 90, IELTS 6.5 in all categories, or Duolingo test (125 points)

Please note: Your Abitur certificate / secondary school leaving certificate is not sufficient for showing proof of your English proficiency. If you are not sure, please contact the academic program advisor before applying.

Application documents

You must upload the following application documents during the online application process:

  • Bachelor’s certificate of completed university studies and transcript of records with average grade
    • If you do not yet have your Bachelor’s certificate, then please submit a transcript of records that includes all examinations already completed with all grades and an average grade.
    • The degree certificate must be submitted no later than 15 December of the year for which admission is requested.
    • If the documents are not available in German or English, we need an officially certified translation.
  • Proof of English language skills (at least level B2)
    This can be shown with the following:
    • TOEFL (internet-based, at least 90 points)
    • IELTS (at least 6.5 points in all sub-disciplines)
    • UNIcert II (min. grade “good”)
    • Cambridge EFL exam (CAE – Certificate in Advanced English)
    • Duolingo (at least 125 points)
    • English-language Bachelor’s degree from an EU member-state or from one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, USA, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Antiqua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Belize, or Guyana
  • APS Certificate
    For applicants from India, China, and Vietnam
  • If you were already enrolled in the same or an equivalent Master’s degree program:
    • Documentation that your right of admission to an examination is still valid for that degree program and
    • that you are not currently undergoing an examination procedure
