If there are more applicants for the first semester of a degree program with a limited number of places than there are places available, the selection is made according to the following criteria in the order indicated:
1. Prior admission
Preference is given to applicants who have already received admission and were unable to start the program. Reasons for this may be, for example a voluntary social year, federal voluntary service, or military service. In order to start your studies after completing your service, you must reapply and submit a copy of your previous letter of admission and certificate of service.
2. Advance quotas
Separate study places are made available for some applicant groups:
3. Remaining study places
90% university's own selection procedure
The selection criteria are defined individually for each degree program. The criteria may include
- Average grade of the university entrance qualification ("Abi grade")
- Weighted individual grades of the university entrance qualification
- Selection interview
- Extracurricular/professional qualifications
10% waiting period
Every half year that has passed since you obtained your university entrance qualification and you are not enrolled at a university in Germany is automatically counted as a waiting semester. A maximum of seven waiting semesters are taken into account. Study places are allocated in order, starting with the applicants with the most semesters in the waiting list. The grades of the university entrance qualification do not play a role here.
