Your application for the Master’s in Environmental Sciences – Soil, Water & Biodiversity

To apply for the Master’s program in Environmental Sciences – Soil, Water & Biodiversity, simply check the admission requirements and then apply online through the HohCampus application portal by the application deadline. 

The application portal opens for applications for the winter semester in mid-November of the previous year for non-EU applicants and at the end of January for EU applicants. It is not possible to start the program in the summer semester due to the double degree structure.

How to apply

The degree program is offered as a European double Master’s degree program. You can start at one of four different universities: 

  • Wageningen University, Netherlands (WUR)
  • Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden (SLU)
  • University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Austria (BOKU)
  • University of Hohenheim, Germany (UHOH) 

In the second year of studies, you switch to one of the other four universities. When applying, you must state which university you want to start at and where you want to spend your second year. 

The application needs to be submitted through the Hohenheim application portal no matter which university you want to start at.

If you choose to start the program at BODU, UHOH, or WU, then all applications need to be submitted to the “HohCampus” application portal. Your documents will then be forwarded to the selected home and host universities, where the formal admission process will take place.

The following information applies only for applications to the EnvEuro consortium using the UHOH portal. You can find information on applying through universityadmissions.se/antagning.se on the SLU website.

Admission requirements

  • An above-average Bachelor’s degree in environmental or natural sciences or a related program at a university in Germany or abroad or at a university of applied sciences with a standard period of study of at least 3 years or an equivalent degree (totaling 180 ECTS) (for other “related programs,” see Annex 2 of the Admission Regulations).
  • If the final grade or average grade of this degree is not above average, the applicant must also prove their special aptitude for the degree programs (for details see Admission Regulations § 4).
  • Proven knowledge in at least two of these three disciplines: mathematics/statistics; biology/ecology; chemistry/physics
  • Proven English language proficiency at TOEFL 92 (ibt), IELTS academic 7.0, or Cambridge C1 Advanced level.
  • APS certificate (only applicants from China, India, and Vietnam)

You must upload the following application documents during the online application process:

  • Your university entrance qualification (e.g., Abitur, A-levels, high school diploma)
  • Bachelor’s certificate and transcript of records
  • Proof of English language proficiency
  • Résumé (CV)
  • Optional: Proof of special aptitude for the degree program, documentation of an above-average degree, letter of motivation
