Your application for the Master’s program in Biology

To apply for the Master’s program in Biology, simply check the admission requirements and then apply online through the HohCampus application portal by the application deadline. The application portal opens for applications for the winter semester in mid-April and for the summer semester in mid-December. 

Application deadlines

To the 1st subject-related semester

  • Winter semester: 15 June
  • Summer semester: not possible

For a higher subject-related semester

  • Winter semester: 15 June
  • Summer semester: 15 January

How to apply

Apply online via the HohCampus application portal for the Master's degree program in Biology and upload the application documents in the application portal. There you can also check the status of your application at any time.

Admission requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a German or foreign university with at least 180 ECTS or at least a 3-year standard period of study
    Bachelor’s programs can be recognized if they have a biological profile such as:
    • Biology
    • Agricultural Biology (University of Hohenheim)
    • Nutritional Science (University of Hohenheim)
    • Food Science and Biotechnology (University of Hohenheim)
    • In addition, other natural science degree programs can be recognized as equivalent.
  • German C1
  • English B2

Application documents

You must upload the following application documents during the online application process:

  • Transcript of records and the certificate of the completed university studies with average grade
    • If you do not yet have your final degree certificate, then we will use your current average grade.
    • The degree certificate must be submitted no later than 15 December of the year for which admission is requested.
    • If the documents are not available in German or English, we need an officially certified translation.
  • Proof of German language skills (at least level C1)
    This can be shown with the following:
    • German university entrance qualification (HZB)
    • German Bachelor´s Degree
    • TestDaF (at least level TDN4 in all four test areas)
    • DSH (at least level DSH-2)
    • DSD (at least level II; German language diploma from the Kultusministerkonferenz)
    • Goethe Certificate C2: "Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom" from the Goethe Institute
    • Deutsche Sprachprüfung II (Munich Language and Interpretation Institute (SDI))
  • Proof of English language skills (at least level B2) if English is not your native language
    This can be proven with the following:
    • at least 3 years of English at school, including 1 year in the upper secondary school with at least "sufficient" as the final grade on the report card
    • TOEFL (internet-based, at least 79 points)
    • IELTS (at least 6 points)
    • UNIcert II (min. grade “good”)
    • TELC B2 Certificate in English (at least “good”)
    • ALTE at least level 3
    • Cambridge English: First / First Certificate in English
    • Cambridge English: Business Vantage / Business English Certificate Vantage
    • ISE II
    • LCCI Level 2 (Distinction)
    • LCCI Level 3 (Distinction)
    • TOEIC min. 750
    • English-language Bachelor’s degree from an EU member-state or from one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, USA, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Antiqua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Belize, or Guyana
      Data collection sheet to show proof of subject-specific coursework and examinations
  • If you have them, submit documentation of:
    • Completed vocational training
    • Subject-specific practical activities lasting at least 6 months
    • Semester abroad
  • If you were already enrolled in a Master’s degree program:
    • Proof of completed exams from another Master’s program
    • Proof that you have not lost the right to take examinations in the degree program to which you are seeking admission or in a related degree program.

Note: Because this is an online application on the application portal, please do not send documents by post!
