Your application for the Master’s in Earth and Climate System Science

To apply for the Master’s program in Earth and Climate System Science, simply check the admission requirements and then apply online through the HohCampus application portal by the application deadline. The application portal opens in mid-December.

Application deadlines

To the 1st subject-related semester

  • Winter semester:
    • German applicants: 15 May
    • International applicants: 15 March
  • Summer semester: not possible

For a higher subject-related semester

  • Winter semester:
    • German applicants: 15 May
    • International applicants: 15 March
  • Summer semester: 15 January

How to apply

Apply online via the HohCampus application portal for the Master’s degree program in Earth and Climate System Sciences and upload the application documents in the application portal. There you can also check the status of your application at any time.

Admission requirements

Applications who fulfill all of the following admission requirements are eligible for admission:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent at a German or international university that fulfills the following criteria:
    • The program had a standard period of study of at least three years and includes at least 180 ECTS credits.
    • The program had a focus on the natural sciences, agricultural sciences, or geosciences.
      The selection committee can recognize other degree programs.
  • Proof of good English language skills
    The minimum level required is B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Application documents

You must upload the following application documents during the online application process:

  • Bachelor’s degree certificate and transcripts of work completed so far
    • If you do not yet have your Bachelor’s certificate, then please submit a transcript of records that includes all examinations already completed with all grades and an average grade.
    • The degree certificate must be submitted no later than 15 December of the year for which admission is requested.
  • Proof of English language skills 
    This can be shown with the following:
    • TOEFL (internet-based, at least 90 points)
    • IELTS (at least 6.5 points)
    • UNIcert II (min. grade “good”)
      If 50 percent of the work required for the UNIcert II certificate has been completed by the application deadline, then you need to include proof of this with your application.
      The completed UNIcert II certificate must be submitted no later than 1 October for the winter semester of the year for which admission was granted.

  • APS Certificate
    For applicants from India, China, and Vietnam
  • If you were already enrolled in the same or an equivalent Master’s degree program:
    • Documentation that your right of admission to an examination is still valid for that degree program and
    • that you are not currently undergoing an examination procedure
