Degree and career prospects

The degree program in Biology qualifies students for a wide range of careers. There are different entry options depending on your personal focus. However, a Master’s degree is recommended especially for certain occupational fields such as those in research and development.

Diverse and interesting career possibilities

The degree program qualifies students for a wide range of careers.

Depending on your personal focus, there are opportunities to enter the following areas:

  • Biomedical research and development
  • Environmental research and conservation
  • Scientific advising and field service in companies
  • Marketing or product management
  • Quality assurance and monitoring
  • Journalism (media and publishing firms)

Potential employers could be in the following areas, for example:

  • Pharmaceutical industry
  • Public service
  • Medical analysis laboratories
  • Companies working in animal feeding, husbandry, and breeding
  • University and non-university research institutions
  • Nature conservation organizations
  • Advisory offices

Every year in the summer semester the CareerCenter Hohenheim organizes the career fair “Life Science” for the agricultural and natural science programs. Here you will get to know future employers and get an impression of possible professional fields of activity.

Then simply continue your studies and acquire additional in-depth knowledge in a Master’s program. Once you have completed your Bachelor’s degree in Biology, you can either do a Master’s in the strongly research-oriented Biology degree program or choose a degree program with a similar discipline, for example Agricultural Sciences, Bioeconomy, or Environmental Sciences. 

Depending on your strengths and areas of interest, you decide which subject is right for you following your Bachelor’s degree in Biology. With a Master’s degree, you can, for example, aspire to a managerial role in research and development or a business or start a scientific career.
