Biobased Products and Bioenergy

How can we replace fossil raw materials with renewable ones? How can renewable energies and sustainable resources be used efficiently? How can we convert biomass into innovative products? 

The Biobased Products and Bioenergy Bachelor’s program deals with these and other exciting questions. Here you will study at the interface of agricultural, natural, and engineering sciences and learn how innovative processes for the extraction and use of renewable raw materials and renewable energies are developed. In order to meet the challenges of our time such as climate change, scarcity of resources, CO₂ emissions, and plastic pollution, you will acquire comprehensive knowledge of sustainable processes and technologies. If you want to play an active role in shaping the energy and raw materials transition, this future-oriented degree program is the right place for you.

Studies

In the Bachelor’s degree program in Biobased Products and Bioenergy, you will learn the technical, plant cultivation, and economic fundamentals of cultivating and processing raw material and energy crops. You will examine a wide variety of sustainable products made from biomass, the generation of bioenergy, and the sustainability of the entire value chain, from the field to the final product. This means you’ll deal with topics like process engineering, ecology, biotechnology, and plant sciences. You can customize 40% of your studies and choose courses according to your interests or choose one of numerous specializations. 

NEW: Part-time studies

Starting in the winter semester 2025/26, you can also study the Bachelor's degree in Biobased Products and Bioenergy part-time. This is ideal if you want to combine your job, family, or other commitments with your studies. You take fewer modules per semester and thus gain more flexibility in your everyday studies.
