Digital Business Management

Business administration focuses on business-related content and deals with the organization, steering, and management of companies. In contrast, economics looks at the macroeconomic context and deals with the development of wages, prices, production, and trade. Information systems deals with the development and application of digital technologies and systems, for example data science and artificial intelligence.

In addition to the basics of business administration, economics, and information systems, you will acquire specialist knowledge on the topics of digitalization, transformation, and innovation. You deal with the following questions, among others: How can the economy and society be shaped digitally? Which digital innovations simplify the world of work and which change processes must be implemented to achieve this?

Economic and business decisions should always be based on facts, often on data or figures. Therefore, you will also take mathematics and statistics in this program. 

We train you to think and create for yourself, not just reproduce answers. The methodological basics include, for example, statistics and mathematics. You'll learn to evaluate and interpret data, an essential skill for the digital world.

From the 4th semester on, you can organize your studies individually. There are elective modules related to the digitalization of the economy and society to choose from, of which you can select 8 depending on your interests. This period is also a good time to plan a semester abroad or an internship. With these options, you create your own profile.

You have two options to choose from toward the end of your studies. In addition to the Bachelor’s thesis, you can choose to gain practical experience through an internship or to deepen your knowledge in areas of your interest through additional elective modules. The internship will be credited to your studies and can be completed in Germany or abroad. You can choose from a wide and varied range of elective modules. No matter what you decide, both options will help you to enhance your individual profile. 

Here is another brief overview of the most important interests and skills you should bring with you:

• Interest in issues of economic, social, and especially digital developments of companies and society.
• The will to shape the future and the interest in learning the skills to do so.
• Good mathematical skills: You will need these, for example, for the mandatory modules in statistics. Don't worry, if your math skills are not the best, we offer numerous support options (e.g. math pre-course). We do our best to make sure you don’t fail out of the program just because of the statistics courses!
• Good English skills: You should be able to read and understand the reading materials, which are often in English.
• Independence: At the university, you are your own boss and no one checks whether you have registered for all modules. From now on it's up to you!
• Self-discipline: Do you attend lectures regularly? From now on, no one checks to make sure you’re attending courses. This is a great freedom and at the same time you should know that you are responsible for motivating yourself from now on. Here’s a little tip: Find friendly fellow students and motivate each other! 

Always in balance: Theory and practice 

Theoretical knowledge is only one aspect of being successful in your future job. You must also be able to apply what you have learned in practice. Although our focus as a university is on imparting theoretical knowledge and the latest research results, we do not neglect the practical side of things.

Gaining practical experience

Internships offer a good opportunity to gain insight into companies and fields of activity. They give you orientation and work experience for later career entry. In the Bachelor's study program Digital Business Management at the University of Hohenheim, you can integrate an internship directly into your studies. Here you have a wide range of options, including an internship abroad. Investing time in an internship is worthwhile and makes it easier to start a career later on. You can also work as a student trainee in the industrial sector or as a student assistant at the university while you study. This gives you exciting, practical insights, a look behind the scenes of business or university, and allows you to earn your own money at the same time.

Acquiring new skills

In addition to specialist knowledge and practical experience, soft skills such as personal, social, and methodological competences also play an important role. We offer you an extensive range of further training: Language skills, project management, communication and presentation techniques, IT and media skills, personal development, and techniques for studying and working. This way you can improve these skills during your studies in an easy and cost-effective way.

Learning from practice

We maintain close contacts with the business community and regularly have lecturers and guest speakers from the corporate world. Here you will learn how the contents and theories taught are implemented and applied in business practice. At the same time, you can make valuable contacts, as companies like to advertise internships and career entry at these events. In general, our location in the Stuttgart economic region offers many opportunities to gain practical experience.

Explore the world and study abroad for a semester or complete an internship abroad. This experience is not only unique, but you will also broaden your horizons while learning more about yourself and the world. It also ensures that you can strengthen your language skills and intercultural competences. These are particularly welcome skills for international companies. Researching during your studies

Research projects offer a good opportunity to apply learned methods and skills in practice, to test your own ideas, and to find completely new solutions to problems. In the Humboldt reloaded project, you will go through all stages of a real research project, from the preparation of the current state of research and the selection of methods for your own research to data analysis and presentation.
