Are you interested in business adminstration and economics, but you’re not sure whether the program is right for you? Here you can find out all about the formal admission requirements and what interests and personality traits you should bring with you.

You should also ask yourself whether the Business Administration and Economics degree program suits your areas of interest and you as a person.

Here is a brief overview of the most important interests and skills you should bring with you:

• Interest in business, economic, and social issues.
• The will to help shape the changes in the economy and the interest in learning the skills to do so during your studies.
• Good mathematical skills: You can also acquire these skills during your studies with the help of various support services (e.g. math pre-course). After all, you shouldn’t fail your studies just because of math!
• Good English skills so that you can read and understand English-language literature
• Independence: At the university you are your own boss and no one checks if you have registered for all exams. From now on it's up to you!
• Self-discipline: Did you understand the material in the last lecture? At the university, no one makes sure you’ve understood everything. This is a great freedom and at the same time you should know that you are responsible for motivating yourself from now on. Here’s a little tip: Find friendly fellow students and motivate each other!

And there's something else you should know: If you're worried that you don’t have the level of knowledge you need in one subject or another, don't worry! We offer you various support options in which you can bring your knowledge of the subject matter up to the required level. For example in our pre-courses.

In order to be successful in your future profession, it is important to be able to apply in practice the knowledge you have learned. Even though universities tend to focus on imparting theoretical knowledge and the latest research results, we do not neglect practical relevance.

Gaining practical experience

You can gain initial work experience and orientation in the professional world through internships or student jobs during your studies. They offer you the opportunity to gain initial insights into companies and possible fields of activity. At the University of Hohenheim, you have the option of integrating an internship into your studies in the free elective area or you can take an internship semester. Regardless of which of the two options you choose, the time investment is worth it to make it easier for you to start your career later on.

Acquiring new skills

In today’s business world, so-called soft skills, i.e. personal, social, and methodological competences, also play an increasingly important role. In addition to specialist knowledge, we therefore focus on comprehensive training programs. For example, we offer you courses on the following topics: Language skills, project management, communication and presentation techniques, IT and media skills, personal development, and techniques for studying and working. This way you can improve these skills during your studies in an easy and cost-effective way.

Learning from practice

We maintain close contacts with the business community and regularly invite lecturers and guest speakers from the corporate world. Here you will learn how the contents and theories taught are implemented and applied in business practice. At the same time, you can make valuable contacts, as companies like to advertise internships at these events.

Explore the world and new countries by spending a semester abroad or participating in the double or triple Bachelor's program. You will not only benefit from international experience and a cultural exchange, but you can also improve your language skills at the same time. Researching during your studies

Research projects are a wonderful opportunity to apply learned methods and skills in practice, to test your own ideas, and to find solutions to problems. In the university-wide project “Humboldt reloaded,” you can immerse yourself in the world of research during your studies. If you like, you can work on real research projects at an early stage. Experienced scientists will guide you and your team members through the projects, which go far beyond the normal curriculum.
