In addition to the basics of business administration and economics, you will acquire specialist knowledge on the topics of sustainability, transformation, and innovation. You deal with the following questions, among others: How can the economy and society be made sustainable? How can innovations be initiated and the necessary change processes implemented?

Since economic and business decisions are always based on data or numbers, mathematics and statistics also play an important role in this degree program.

The methodological basics include, for example, statistics and mathematics. You'll learn to evaluate and interpret data.

From the 4th semester onwards, you can choose from 7 specialization area modules related to sustainable management according to your interests. This way you create an individual profile for yourself.

At the end of your studies, you will write your Bachelor's thesis and can further customize your studies and sharpen your personal profile by integrating an internship or by taking additional elective modules. The internship will be credited to your studies and can be completed in Germany or abroad. You can choose from a wide and varied range of elective modules depending on your interests or what profession you’d like to pursue.

Here is another brief overview of the most important interests and skills you should bring with you:

• Interest in issues of economic, social, and ecological development of companies and society. 
• The will to shape the future and the interest in learning the skills to do so.
• Good mathematical skills: You will need these, for example, for the mandatory modules in statistics. Don't worry, if your math skills are not the best, we offer numerous support options (e.g. math pre-course). We do our best to make sure you don’t fail out of the program just because of the statistics courses!
• Good English skills: You should be able to read and understand the reading materials, which are often in English.
• Independence: At the university, you are your own boss and no one checks whether you have registered for all modules. From now on it's up to you!
• Self-discipline: Do you attend lectures regularly? From now on, no one checks to make sure you’re attending courses. This is a great freedom and at the same time you should know that you are responsible for motivating yourself from now on. Here’s a little tip: Find friendly fellow students and motivate each other! 

Always in balance: Theory and practice 

Knowledge isn’t everything! You must also be able to apply what you have learned in practice. Although the focus of a university program is on imparting theoretical knowledge and the latest research results, we do not neglect practical relevance.

Gaining practical experience

Internships offer insights into companies and professional fields and give you orientation and work experience for your later career start. At the University of Hohenheim you can integrate an internship directly into your studies or you can complete an entire practical semester. Here you have a wide range of options, including an internship abroad. The time investment in an internship is worthwhile and makes your career entry easier. Of course we will support you with the administrative aspects, internship search, and application process. 

Acquiring new skills

To be successful in a profession, more is needed than just theoretical knowledge. Soft skills, consisting of personal, social, and methodological competences, also play an important role. We offer you an extensive range of further training: Language skills, project management, communication and presentation techniques, IT and media skills, personal development, and techniques for studying and working. This way you can improve these skills during your studies in an easy and cost-effective way.

Learning from practice

We maintain close contacts with the business community and regularly invite lecturers and guest speakers from the corporate world. Here you will learn how the contents and theories taught are implemented and applied in business practice. At the same time, you can make valuable contacts, as companies like to advertise internships at these events.

Explore the world and study abroad for a semester. This experience is not only guaranteed to be unique, but you will also broaden your horizons while learning more about yourself and the world. A semester abroad offers a good opportunity to consolidate language skills and intercultural competences. These are particularly welcome skills for international companies. Researching during your studies

Research projects are a wonderful opportunity to apply learned methods and skills in practice, to test your own ideas, and to find solutions to problems. In the Humboldt reloaded project, you will go through all stages of a real research project, from the preparation of the current state of research and the selection of methods for your own research to data analysis and presentation.
